The Art of Marketing

Online Marketing

With the invention of the internet, an entire new field of marketing has opened up. Online marketing is the business of identifying potential customers and attracting them to a specific product by using the internet. Imagine the last few times that you have surfed the web, and think about how many advertisements are located at the top, bottom, and sides of every web page. If you have been visiting the websites that most Americans visit, than you will be in agreement that companies are trying to market their products online!

Online marketing works because it is cheap, and customers are extremely accessible to any business. Prices are tremendously different if you compare costs of raising a billboard or purchasing air time on a local television station to the costs of putting an advertisement up on a local blog. And with so many people surfing the internet for hours every day, a simple logo at the top of a website will probably be seen by more potential customers than it would on a television station.

Online marketers are highly strategic in how they portray their products. They understand how delicate it can be to place their services on a webpage. Rather than having the customer decide whether or not they want to drive to the store to purchase a good, online marketing is helping a customer decide whether or not to leave the webpage they are currently on, to learn more about the product. If you were in the business of online marketing, than you would spend many hours each day evaluating the psychological impacts of every word, every image, and every slogan that you place on the internet.

Online marketing has grown tremendously over the past few years, and will continue to do so as more and more people rely on computers and the internet to do their shopping.
